Minsk, June 10 /Xin Hua/ — Power unit No. 1 of the Belarusian nuclear power plant /BelAES/ has generated more than 39 billion kWh of electricity. The corresponding information was published by the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Belarus on Wednesday.
“Since the moment of the first connection to the unified power system of Belarus on November 3, 2020, the power unit has generated more than 39 billion kWh of electricity and fully confirmed the design characteristics in terms of safety and efficiency. During the operation of the power unit, four fuel campaigns have been completed and, in accordance with the regulations, four scheduled preventive repairs have been carried out,” the press service reported.
The acceptance commission signed the act of industrial operation of power unit No. 1 of BelAES exactly five years ago — June 10, 2021. Today, BelAES provides about 40% of the country’s electricity needs, contributes to strengthening energy independence and the development of Belarus’s economy, as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant, located near the city of Ostrovets in the Grodno region, was built according to the standard Russian project “AES-2006.” BelAES consists of two power units, each with a capacity of 1200 MW.
