Kyiv, June 10 /Sinyaua/ — The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Wednesday decided to increase the country’s defense budget for the current year by 1.56 trillion hryvnias /34.8 billion US dollars/ — to a record 4.4 trillion hryvnias /98.1 billion dollars/. This was reported on “Telegram” by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.
According to her, 2.3 trillion hryvnias from the defense budget will be allocated for the purchase of weapons and military equipment, and more than 1.45 trillion hryvnias — for monetary allowances to Ukrainian servicemen.
R. Sviridenko emphasized that the allocation of additional resources became possible thanks to the financial support of the European Union amounting to 90 billion euros and other aid programs.
