Since the beginning of this year, participants of the city loyalty program“Million Prizes”More than 855 thousand rubles have been transferred to help the animals of the Moscow Zoo, who are under the care of citizens. The total amount collected already exceeds three times the final indicator for 2025, which was 240 thousand rubles. For each donation, Muscovites receive gratitude in the form of city points.
More than a century of care: from a tiny mouse to a bamboo shark
The tradition of animal guardianship began in 1864, when the Moscow Zoo was opened, which is today subordinate to the capital’sDepartment of Culture. Nowadays, the modern program “Zoo Friends Club” continues it.
The care program allows creating more comfortable living conditions for pets, and Muscovites can become closer to exotic animals and, possibly, make their childhood dream come true.
Thanks to the activity of Muscovites, help was received by various representatives of the world’s fauna — from a tiny miniature mouse, a blue tree frog and a bright mandarin duck to an exotic bamboo shark, Bennett’s kangaroo, and Grevy’s zebra.
The list of wards expanded this year. It now includes the bristly armored cruiser, the grey heron, the Far Eastern forest cat, the African waterbuck, the lion-tailed macaque, the treepie, and the pale-headed saki.
In recent months, caregivers have found such rare animals as the Amur leopard, the caiman turtle, the lynx, the golden lion tamarin, as well as aquatic inhabitants: the South American sea lion and the northern fur seal.
Points for care

If the amount of the first donation is from five to 10 thousand rubles, the guardian receives five thousand points. For the largest first donation—from 10 to 20 thousand rubles—7.5 thousand points are provided.
They are accrued once a year for each new contract. Even if guardianship was already arranged last year, upon concluding a new contract, the guardian receives points again.
In addition to the points of the city loyalty program “Million Prizes”, the Moscow Zoo provides guardians with a number of privileges depending on the annual amount contributed: a card for free visits, an electronic certificate and a photo of the ward animal, mention on the official zoo website, a plaque with information about the guardian on the enclosure, and more.
