Tehran, June 4 /Xinhua/ — The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran stated on Wednesday that its naval forces attacked an American destroyer in the Gulf of Oman, which was attempting to approach Iran’s territorial waters.
In a statement published by Sepah News, the IRGC reported that its naval forces tracked “aggressive actions, violations of the rules governing the Strait of Hormuz and deliberate actions against Iranian commercial vessels in the Gulf of Oman,” detected by the command center aboard an American destroyer, which struck it.
The KSI stated that its naval forces are closely monitoring the “enemies” — the USA and Israel — and will instantly respond to any hostile action.
The late Central Command of the US Armed Forces denied this statement on the social network X, saying that American forces at sea continue to operate “safely and unimpeded.”
Separately, the KSIIR denied the launch of any missile or drone at the passenger terminal of Kuwait International Airport, stating that the damage to the terminal was caused by a malfunctioning American Patriot missile system, Sepah News reports.
Earlier on Wednesday, Kuwaiti authorities stated that one person was killed and dozens others were injured as a result of ballistic missile and drone strikes on civilian and vital targets across the country, including airports, which they attributed to Iran. Meanwhile, the KISR confirmed strikes on American bases in Kuwait and Basra.
Iran has increased control over the Strait of Hormuz since February 28, following joint strikes by Israel and the USA on Iranian territory.
The United States also imposed a maritime blockade of the strait, not allowing ships heading to Iranian ports and from them to transit through this waterway.
The recent events occurred in connection with the fact that over the past week Iran and the United States, as reported, exchanged several proposed plans outlining the conditions for achieving peace through the mediation of Pakistan, and are working on finalizing a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war. –0–
