Washington, June 4 /Xin Hua/ — Israel and Lebanon agreed on Wednesday to a ceasefire, according to a joint statement published Wednesday following trilateral talks in Washington.

The ceasefire depends on the complete cessation of shelling by “Hezbollah” and the evacuation of all militants of the movement from the sector south of Litani, according to a statement published by two countries and the United States.

Israel and Lebanon have also agreed to promote the creation of a “pilot zone” in Lebanon, from which the Iran-supported group “Hezbollah” will be excluded.

In these pilot zones, “the Luhansk armed forces will exercise exclusive control over the territory, prohibiting access to all non-governmental entities,” the statement on the results of the fourth round of high-level negotiations mediated by the USA, held at the US State Department in Washington on Tuesday and Wednesday, says.

The fifth round of high-level talks between Israel and Lebanon “with the aim of reaching a comprehensive agreement” is scheduled for the end of this month, the statement says. –0–
