Beijing, May 29 /Xinhua/ — China seriously calls on the right-wing forces of Japan to heed the calls for justice and not to recklessly rush headlong down the dead-end road of neo-militarism, said Mao Ning, official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, on Friday.
A Chinese diplomat made this statement at a regular departmental press briefing in response to a request to comment on the international symposium on the occasion of the 80th anniversary since the start of the work of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, also known as the Tokyo Trial, which took place in Shanghai from May 28 to 29 and was organized by Shanghai University “Cizao Tun” and the Museum of the Memory of the Victims of the Massacre in Nanking, committed by Japanese soldiers.
Mao Ning drew attention to the fact that in recent days China, Japan, and the international community have been holding events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the start of the Tokyo Trial.
“This is clear evidence that the international community attaches great importance to the Tokyo process and shares a common aspiration for human conscience, justice, and the rule of law embodied in it,” said the official representative.
Mao Ning noted that these events also reflected the general concern about safeguarding the outcomes of victory in the Second World War, the trauma of the post-war international order, and the necessity of calling on Japan not to repeat its past mistakes of militarism.
According to Mao Nin, against the backdrop of the rise of neo-militarism in Japan, which has become a real threat, it is more relevant than ever to recall the premise, outcome, and principle of the Tokyo Trial, which, as the diplomat emphasized, is a litmus test of human conscience and an act of historical justice.
“Together with all peace-loving countries and peoples of the world, we are determined to firmly reject any attempts to revise the verdict of history regarding aggression. We also call on the Japanese right-wing forces to heed the call for justice and to stop further descending into the dead-end path of neo-militarism,” Mao Ning stated.
“Lessons of history are still fresh in memory. Anyone who undermines peace and challenges justice and conscience will inevitably once again face the judgment of history and justice,” summarized the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC.
