UN, May 26 /Xinhua/ — Member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi on Tuesday called for the facilitation of negotiations between the United States and Iran.

China is making efforts to resolve the current conflict, Wan Yi told journalists after chairing an open debate of the UN Security Council on the topic “Upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and strengthening the international system, in which the central place is occupied by the UN.”

According to Van I, China supports contacts and coordination both with the main parties to the conflict and with important regional and international partners.

“We believe it is necessary to respect the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of all countries in the region, to ensure the protection of civilian and non-military objects, to guarantee the safety of transport routes and energy infrastructure, as well as to observe the provisions of the nuclear non-proliferation regime,” he noted.

In my opinion, Van I, the key issue in the situation around Iran is the negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

“We support the active mediation efforts of Pakistan and other countries, as well as the steps taken by the United States and Iran respectively,” said Van I.

He noted that a long-standing problem cannot be solved at once, but each step forward in negotiations gives more hope for peace. According to the Chinese diplomat, the sooner the conflict ends, the fewer civilian casualties there will be.

“We hope that the relevant parties will demonstrate commitment to the truce and continue moving towards each other so that peace in the Middle East can be restored as soon as possible,” emphasized Van I. –0–
