RN-Wankor (operating in the oil and gas production complex of NK Rosneft) has commissioned an early water disposal unit (URPSV) at the Vankor field. The new Russian equipment will already this year allow directing through technology the closed cycle for the secondary use of over 5 million cubic meters of water, improving the environmental performance of production.
UPS developed and implemented by specialists of the corporate scientific institute in Ufa and engineers of “RN-Vankor.” This is already the second such complex at the Vankor field, installed near a group of cluster pads. The separation of formation water from well production, its purification from impurities, and subsequent injection into the formation are carried out in close proximity to the production site. Thanks to this, the load on the oil gathering pipeline systems, pumping, and oil treatment facilities is reduced.
Compared to more powerful analogues, new early dump units are autonomous and compact. For their operation, the hydraulic energy transmitted from the wellbore— the process of separating “free” water from the gas-liquid mixture— is sufficient without the use of complex expensive equipment and additional energy costs.
The first installation of this type was launched in 2023 as part of the innovation project for the implementation of modular scalable solutions at the production facility “RN-Vankor.” Over two years, URPSV-1 has separated more than 8 million m³ of formation water with its subsequent injection back into the formation.
In the next few years, construction of installations of this type is planned at the Vankor, Tagul, and Lodochnoye fields.
“RN-Vankor” in its production activities implements the concept of a closed loop and resource reuse. From the very beginning of the exploitation of deposits in the Vankor cluster, formation waters after treatment are directed for reuse in the formation pressure maintenance system, which has allowed to completely abandon water intake for these purposes from external sources.
