On May 21–22, at the Moscow Architectural Institute (MARKHI), the defense of concepts submitted to the IV All-Russian competition of student works in the field of universal design and barrier-free urban environment design for low-mobility citizens “City in Detail” took place.
Competition dedicated to the development of urban planning concepts based on the principle of universal design. This year, the object of design was the historic town of Torzhok in the Tver region, with complex terrain and a rich heritage. Participants were tasked with creating a safe, informative, and comfortable urban environment equally accessible to all.
In the current season, 94 teams from 29 universities in 19 cities of Russia submitted applications. In total, more than 1500 students and teachers participated in the events of the 2025–2026 competition. Eleven best teams presented their projects at the in-person defense in Moscow.

Our students have prepared the project “Golden Thread of Accessibility,” which provides for the comprehensive development of the territory around the Putevoy Palace with the integration of inclusive infrastructure, adaptive use of historic buildings, and the creation of ring tourist routes.

As a result of the competition, students of SPbGASU took second place, and were also awarded a prize in the special nomination “Aesthetics and Functionality” for “the charm of universal design, embodied in an element and fragment of the urban environment.”
Team members shared their impressions: “We are happy to be part of this competition and are glad that our efforts have yielded such significant results! We take with us invaluable experience, a wealth of memories, and complete satisfaction with the outcome.”
The project is being implemented with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund, the Federal Educational and Methodological Association “Architecture”, the Ministry of Construction of Russia, and the Ministry of Labor of Russia. The competition partner: the Agency for Strategic Initiatives.
