Almaty, May 26 /Xin Hua/ — Kazakhstan has started accepting applications for participation in the first international film festival created using artificial intelligence technologies, Astana AI Film Festival (AAIFF 2026). The Kazinform agency reported this on Monday.
The main event of the festival will be an international short film competition created with the help of AI technologies. The total prize fund will be 1 million US dollars. The festival’s official website aaiff.ai has opened applications for creators from all over the world.
As one of the organizers of the festival Almas Zhali told, the competition program includes two sections: the main one with the theme “The future worth living in”, as well as an open section with five nominations — for best direction, visual language, story, concept, and character.
According to the organizer, to participate it is necessary to create a short film (II film) up to 10 minutes in length and upload it to the festival platform with a project description.
The application acceptance will be extended until August 15, 2026, and the festival will take place in Astana from September 28 to October 1, 2026, as part of Astana Al Week — a week dedicated to artificial intelligence.
“We expect the Astana AI Film Festival to become an annual event in the creative industry and a sustainable international platform for new formats and names,” said one of the festival organizers, founder of the company Ozen, Aizatullah Khussein.
