Shanghai, May 26 /Xin Hua/ — The first meeting of the Scientific Council on Metabolic Diseases China-SCO took place on May 24 at the “Zhuizijin” hospital at the Medical College of Shanghai Qiaotong University, located in the eastern Chinese megapolis Shanghai, it was reported at the mentioned medical institution in an interview by correspondent of Xin Hua News Agency.

More than 20 responsible representatives of medical institutions, authoritative experts in the field of endocrinology, and representatives of health departments from more than ten countries, including China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Iran, and Mongolia, took part in the meeting. Participants exchanged views on topics related to the creation of the medical system, the state of the spread of diabetes mellitus, and experience in its diagnosis and treatment, as well as strategies for the prevention of metabolic diseases and combating them.

In his speech at the opening of the meeting, academician of the Engineering Academy of China, director of the Zhuyizin Hospital, Nin Guan, acquainted [the audience] with achievements in areas such as clinical diagnostics and treatment of metabolic diseases in China, scientific research and innovations in this field, and the creation of the National Metabolism Management Center (MMC) of China, as well as spoke about six initiatives involving the establishment of a medical training center and a center for standardized management of the course of metabolic diseases, conducting joint scientific research, the creation of a mechanism for annual scientific [activities]conferences, promoting deepened global cooperation and developing a common strategy for the development of the China-SCO Center for Cooperation on Metabolic Diseases.

Nin Guan noted that the above-mentioned series of initiatives is designed to summarize the experiences of different countries, taking into account differences in the level of development and cultural customs, to create a system of standards for the prevention and control of metabolic diseases, which can be implemented within the framework of the SCO, to form an accessible and inclusive SCO community in the field of metabolic health and bring “SCO wisdom” to the prevention of chronic diseases and the fight against them worldwide.

Participants of the meeting from various countries spoke about the current state of affairs and challenges facing healthcare systems regarding the prevention and treatment of diabetes in their countries, and agreed to strengthen academic exchange, data sharing, and technical training to accelerate the standardization of diagnostics and treatment of metabolic diseases. Representatives from Kazakhstan, Laos, Mongolia, and other countries expressed strong readiness to deepen cooperation with China and expand their countries’ capabilities in the field of diagnostics and treatment of metabolic diseases.

On May 24 in the second half of the day, participants of the meeting from various countries visited the campus of the “Zhuizhin” hospital in the Cziadin district to familiarize themselves with the results of the reform of public hospitals, the hierarchical system of diagnostics and treatment, as well as the creation of a cohesive medical consortium. They also got acquainted with digital diagnostics and the treatment of metabolic diseases, the system of interdisciplinary diagnostics and treatment, as well as with equipment developed by China for proton therapy and advanced results of research in the field of radiation therapy.

Nin Guan stated that in the future it is planned to regularly hold SCO seminars on metabolic diseases, create an exclusive medical exchange platform, analyze the current situation with prevention and control of such diseases in various countries, and publish the corresponding white papers.

According to him, efforts will also be directed towards developing specialized programs in the field of healthcare, exchanging experience in the prevention of metabolic diseases, introducing innovations in protocols and diagnostics and treatment, as well as creating a new ecosystem of cooperation between SCO countries in the use of artificial intelligence in medicine.

Let us remind you that the China-SCO Metabolic Diseases Cooperation Center was established in February 2026 in Shanga and is based at the “Zhuijin” hospital.

This center aims to coordinate the efforts of SCO countries for jointly addressing issues related to metabolic diseases, and developing systematic management in this area, thereby contributing to the improvement of the well-being of the peoples of all participating countries in the organization.
