Madrid, May 26 /Sina/ — The Spanish Ministry of Health on Monday confirmed a new case of infection with the Xantavirus among 14 Spaniards — passengers of the cruise liner MV Hondius, which was affected by an outbreak of the disease in the Atlantic Ocean in April.
14 Spanish citizens were evacuated from the island of Tenerife in a strictly controlled operation on May 10 and have since been quarantined at the Central Defense Hospital named after Gómez Ulla in Madrid.
According to the Ministry of Health, the new case was identified during routine PCR testing as part of the existing system of isolation and control.
A patient who currently has no symptoms of the disease was transferred to a high-level isolation ward, where he remains under specialized medical supervision, a strict biological safety protocol is in effect, the department reported.
The detection of a new case does not change the overall risk level for the population and does not affect the epidemiological response measures currently in place, added the Ministry of Health.
This is the second case of infection with the virus among evacuated Spaniards in Madrid. The first patient, it is reported, is recovering after showing symptoms.
