San Francisco, May 26 /Xin Hua/ — On Tuesday morning, reports were received about numerous casualties following what the fire department described as a “major chemical explosion” at a plant in the city of Longview, in the American state of Washington.
In the emergency notification posted on social media, the Longview fire department stated that it is taking measures in connection with the incident at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging company facility, and urged residents to avoid this area.
The enterprise is located near the border of the states of Washington and Oregon, along the Columbia River. According to the Washington State Department of Ecology, here there are a pulp and paper mill and a packaging production plant for liquids.
Authorities do not specify the exact number of victims or the cause of the explosion. According to information from Nippon Dynawave Packaging, its enterprise in Longhua has been producing cardboard packaging for liquids since 1953 and is a subsidiary of the Nippon Paper Group. –0–
