Beijing, May 26 /Xinhua/ — The recent visit of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to China became an important high-level bilateral contact timed to the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan, and served to strengthen and elevate to a new height the special friendly relations between the two countries. This was stated on Tuesday by the official spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, speaking about the main results and highlights of this visit.

As Mao Ning noted, diplomacy sets the course and demonstrates the strategic nature of China-Pakistan relations.

According to the diplomat, during the visit the leaders of the two countries agreed to deepen the China-Pakistan relationship into all-weather strategic cooperation and partnership, accelerate the building of an even closer China-Pakistan community of shared destiny in a new era, resolutely support each other in protecting fundamental interests, provide political leadership to China-Pakistan relations, and give them a strong driving force.

Mao Ning indicated that practical cooperation serves as a pillar and demonstrates the mutual benefits of Sino-Pakistani relations. The leaders of the two countries agreed to consistently promote the implementation of the action plan for forming the China-Pakistan community of shared destiny and to accelerate the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, updated to version 2.0.

As Mao Nin added, the leaders also agreed to create an updated version of the bilateral free trade agreement, to explore possibilities for cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, the digital economy, and agriculture. In addition, the parties signed a number of documents on cooperation in spheres such as the economy and trade, science and technology, agriculture and food, and human resources.

An official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that international cooperation adds additional nuances to China-Pakistan relations and demonstrates a guiding role.

The Pakistani side supports the proposal put forward by Chairman Xi Jinping consisting of four points for settling the situation in the Middle East, Mao Ning noted, pointing out that the Chinese side, in turn, highly appreciates Pakistan’s initiative and its mediatory efforts to restore peace in the Middle Eastern region.

The parties agreed on the necessity to decisively defend the results of the Victory in the Second World War, to oppose any attempts to revive fascism and militarism, to jointly protect the post-war international order, to safeguard peace and security worldwide, to stand guard over historical truth and international justice, added the official representative of the UN MFA.
