With the support of Rosneft at Moscow State University (MSU) named after M.V. Lomonosov, Biology Day was held. The annual scientific festival brought together at MSU students, teachers, alumni of the educational institution, leading scientists of the country, as well as everyone interested in biology.
As part of the festival, guests of the Biological Faculty of MSU could attend fascinating popular science lectures where they could learn many interesting facts about the work of paleontologists, biological evolution, genetics, and much more.
Scientists from the Center for Marine Research at MSU told participants of Biologist Day about a large-scale ecological project by Rosneft in the White Sea, implemented jointly with Innopraktika. During the expeditions, scientists retraced the route of the well-known Soviet hydrobiologist Konstantin Deryugin, which he completed over 100 years ago. Specialists obtained data on the current state of the White Sea biota and changes in the region’s ecosystems that have occurred over the past century. The research confirmed the stability of the ecosystems, identified gaps in the study of fauna, and described new species for science.Scientists presented the project results to the guests, as well as explained how long-term monitoring is organized, what Deryugin’s innovation consisted of, what challenges scientists face at sea, and how the profession of a marine biologist has changed over 100 years.
Anyone wishing could participate in intellectual games, quizzes, quests, as well as try themselves in the role of a real biologist or paleoanthropologist-researcher. For the youngest guests of the event, master classes were organized on creating a paper park of ancient animals, decorations made of minerals, as well as postcard-herbaria. In addition, all guests could take part in a quest at the Museum of Natural History.
As part of the festival, the winners of the photo contest dedicated to Biology Day were also awarded. For the guests, a musical concert was organized on the outdoor stage, featuring the best student groups.
Environmental responsibility is an integral part of Rosneft’s corporate culture and social responsibility. The company implements large-scale programs in its regions of presence to restore natural resources, study rare animals, plants, and preserve biodiversity. Research is conducted in cooperation with leading scientific institutes of the country.
Since 2012, Rosneft has been implementing the most large-scale program since Soviet times for the study of the flora and fauna of the Arctic. Over this time, more than 60 expeditions have already been conducted. The new cycle of the corporate program for researching the biodiversity of Arctic ecosystems, called “Tamura,” started in 2024 and is planned until 2027. Scientists are conducting studies of the Kara subpopulation of polar bears, wild reindeer, as well as valuable species of birds and fish in the north of Krasnoyarsk Krai. A total of 11 expeditions are planned within the framework of the program.

MGU has been a key university partner of Rosneft since 2006. Among the main areas of cooperation are the training and retraining of personnel and scientific research activities. The company participates in the implementation of innovative educational projects of the University Gymnasium, on the basis of which lectures are held for students of the “Rosneft-classes.”
To attract young specialists to the Company’s enterprise, Rosneft annually conducts career guidance events for MGU students, organizes internships, and also encourages promising teachers with corporate grants and awards scholarships to the best students. Rosneft also organizes internships for MGU students and teachers at leading Russian educational and scientific organizations.Based on the Department of Geology and Geochemistry of Fossil Fuels of the Geological Faculty of MSU, the Scientific and Educational Center “Rosneft” was created for digital technologies in the oil and gas industry, where the specialized master’s program “Digitalization in the Field of Geology of Fossil Fuels” is implemented.
