Nanchang, May 19 /Xinhua/ — The sound of working equipment does not cease in the industrial park of Yudu County, Jiangxi Province, in eastern China. At the local garment production enterprise “Czaiku,” work is underway at an intensive pace to produce a large batch of insulated denim suits, which will soon, after covering tens of thousands of kilometers, be sent directly to Russia by freight train as part of the China-Europe international railway freight routes.

“For the sixth year in a row, we have been steadily supplying products to the Russian brand Lady & Gentleman City,” said the chairman of the board of the company Xiao Zhiyue. “We specially developed denim fabric with a heating function, adapted to the cold climate of Russia, and it enjoys high demand in the local market.”

This is not an isolated example. In recent years, trade in textile and sewing products between Yiwu and Russia has shown steady growth. Russia has been the largest foreign market for the sale of Yiwu-produced goods for several consecutive years, which are supplied to stores and supermarkets in Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as sold in fashion boutiques in Kaliningrad, becoming a vivid symbol of Chinese-Russian trade and economic cooperation.

Yudu County is part of the city of Ganzhou in the southern part of Jiangxi Province. As an inland region, it actively develops foreign trade despite lacking access to the sea. Trade ties between Yudu and Russia in the light industry sector have a long history. Initially, interaction between the sides was fragmented: local enterprises only received small orders through foreign trade intermediaries and cross-border e-commerce platforms, so the product range supplied by Yudu was mainly basic everyday clothing. The situation drastically changed after the launch of cargo train services between China and Europe in the city of Ganzhou, which significantly shortened logistics times and thereby improved the production chains of the textile and garment industries in Yidu.

As told by the head of the office of the district center for the development of the clothing industry Wen Dinqian, after the launch of the China-Europe trains, textile companies from Yidu became attractive to Russian buyers coming here directly thanks to their advantages, namely fast delivery times, reliable product quality, and a high price-quality ratio.

According to him, local enterprises actively adapt the product range to the needs of the Russian market: they mass-produce insulated models and functional textile products specially adapted to the harsh climate of Russia. The form of cooperation is gradually transforming from standard OEM contract manufacturing to independent design and targeted product development based on the ODM model.

An international procurement business meeting within the framework of the Textile and Sewing Industry Week of the province of Zhejiang, held for the fourth consecutive year, has become like an invisible bridge directly connecting production chains in Zhejiang with the retail chains of Russian stores. Let us remind you that in November 2025, at this meeting, which was attended by more than 150 buyers from 41 countries and regions around the world, including Russia, a preliminary agreement on foreign trade orders totaling 2.98 billion yuan (approximately 437.6 million USD) was reached, with more than a third of this volume coming from orders from Russia.

“Previously, we had to work through numerous intermediaries, but now representatives of Russian brands and major retail chains conduct negotiations with us directly,” shares his impressions Xiao Zhixue. As a long-term main supplier for the popular Russian brand Lady & Gentleman City, his company not only receives large orders for denim clothing but also develops functional fabrics with heat-insulating and moisture-wicking effects, fully meeting consumer needs for the diverse weather conditions of the Russian climate.

“We offer not just ready-made clothing, but individual solutions for Russian consumers,” said Xiao Huey, the general director of the local sewing company “Veilai,” which placed an order for the production of 50 thousand units of products at the International Procurement Business Meeting in 2025. This enterprise is actively moving away from simple contract manufacturing in favor of independent design of products.

Similar conversions took place in the local clothing company “Czuonxin.” Its general director, Zhu Huadun, reported that thanks to exhibition platforms, the enterprise concluded long-term agreements with Russian buyers for the supply of men’s autumn-winter clothing and casual clothing for active recreation.

High potential for bilateral cooperation attracted the attention of official representatives of Russia. In March of this year, a delegation led by the mayor of Kaliningrad, Oleg Aminov, visited Yidu. The guests familiarized themselves with the production capacities and foreign trade activities of local enterprises, including the products of the company “Czhunxin,” and reached agreements on expanding the export of jeans and winter insulated clothing.

As of today, a large industrial cluster has been formed in the Yuydu district, uniting more than 3,850 enterprises in the textile and sewing industry. More than 50 companies are carrying out activities on a permanent basis, oriented towards the Russian market, with the expansion and enrichment of both product names and a variety of categories, covering both offline retail chains and leading Russian e-commerce platforms.

The year 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of partnership relations and strategic cooperation between China and Russia. On March 24 of this year, the cities of Ganzhou and Kaliningrad officially signed an agreement on establishing friendly relations, which opens new opportunities for strengthening trade and economic ties between the two regions.

Textile cooperation between Uygur and Russian partners continues to develop dynamically, becoming a vivid example of fruitful trade and economic interaction between the two countries.
