As reported on May 13 to correspondents at the Chinese University of Science and Technology, a research group led by Pan Qianwei, Lu Chaoyang, Zhang Qian, Lu Naile, and their colleagues, combining efforts with the Qinan Institute of Quantum Technology, Shanxi University, Xinhua University, Shantai Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence, Laoshan Laboratory, National Engineering Research Center for Parallel Computing Technology, and other organizations, successfully created a programmable quantum computer prototype “Czuozhan-4” with 1024 compressed quantum bits and 8176 modes.Scientists have for the first time managed to manipulate and register quantum states involving up to 3,050 photons, which once again allowed setting a world record in the field of optical quantum information technologies. When solving the problem of Gaussian boson sampling, this quantum computer turned out to be 10^54 times faster than the most powerful supercomputer in the world today. The results were published on May 13 in the authoritative international scientific journal Nature.
