Riga, May 16 /Xinua/ — Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics announced that he tasked the deputy of the Saeima /parliament/ from the opposition party “United List” Andris Kulbergs to form a new government composition.
At a press conference on Saturday, E. Rinkevich stated that in recent days he conducted intensive consultations with representatives of political parties and parliamentary factions following the announcement of the resignation of the outgoing Prime Minister of Latvia, Evika Siliņa, from the party ‘New Unity’.
According to the results of consultations, E. Rinkevich noted that he sees the possibility to form a government by entrusting this task to opposition representatives. He explained that this is connected with recent political dynamics and the necessity to give the opposition a chance to propose a new government.
E. Silin announced her resignation on May 14 following the collapse of the ruling coalition consisting of the parties “New Unity”, “Progressive”, and “Union of Greens and Farmers” just a few months before the parliamentary elections scheduled for early October.
