Astana, May 16 /Xin Hua/ — In the capital of Kazakhstan on Saturday, the launch of the Astana LRT light rail transit system took place. The ceremony was attended by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The president noted the special significance of the LRT launch for Astana and the entire Kazakhstan, emphasizing that in the future the capital should become the transportation hub of Eurasia. K.-Zh. Tokayev also expressed gratitude to the Chinese side for the successful project implementation.
The length of the line is 22.4 km, and the infrastructure includes 18 stations. The trains are equipped with a GOA4 level automation system, which provides for fully automated operation with the possibility of manual control in emergency situations.
