Tehran, May 16 /Xin Hua/ — At least 10 people were injured as a result of a major fire that broke out on Saturday at a motor oil production plant in East Azerbaijan Province in northwestern Iran. This was reported by the Iranian state news agency IRIB.
A fire occurred around noon in an industrial park in the city of Merage. After the report of the fire, seven rescuers were immediately dispatched to the scene, the agency reports citing the deputy head for operations of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, Mohammad Hossein Kabadi.
The official Iranian news agency IRNA reported that fire brigades and ambulances were also immediately dispatched to the scene of the incident. Despite the efforts of the firefighters, the fire has not yet been contained, and the area is covered by a thick layer of smoke, the agency added.
According to its data, this plant is one of the largest enterprises for the production of motor oil in the country and employs more than 400 people.
