Beijing, May 15 /Xinhua/ — China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday explained the new positioning of China-US relations in a press briefing for journalists following the meeting between CPC Chairman Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump in Beijing.
During the state visit of U.S. President D. Trump to China, the leaders of the two countries agreed on a new positioning of bilateral relations as Sino-American relations of constructive strategic stability, setting a strategic orientation for Sino-American relations for the next three years and even for a longer period.
Van I indicated that “constructive strategic stability” should be positive stability, based on cooperation, and that the stability of Sino-American relations must be steadily strengthened through exchanges and cooperation.
“Constructive strategic stability” should be a favorable stability with moderate competition and without a zero-sum game, where one party’s gain means the other’s loss, noted the Chinese diplomat.
It must also be regular stability with controlled disagreements and must not fluctuate like the American roller coaster.
Additionally, “constructive strategic stability” must also be a long-lasting stability that gives hope for peace and in which there is no place for conflicts, confrontations, and even more so wars, added Van I. –0–
