Moscow, May 14 /Xin Hua/ — Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated on Thursday that the first step toward revising its sanction policy regarding Russia should be made by Japan itself. This is stated in a message published on the website of the Russian foreign affairs department.

“We would like to remind that since February 2022, Tokyo, exclusively out of solidarity with the West, has initiated a hostile sanctions policy line towards our country, which continues to this day. That is precisely why the first step towards reconsidering such a policy must be taken by Japan itself,” emphasized M. Zaharova.

According to her, if the Japanese government really intends to protect the interests of its companies in Russia, it is necessary to create a normal political atmosphere for conducting business, and the initiative in this lies exclusively with Tokyo.

“As has been repeatedly emphasized, Moscow is open to contacts with Japan — if such an approach is made, but it is in no way asking for or insisting on such communication,” added M. Zaharov.
