Ramallah, May 14 /Xin Hua/ — The 8th General Conference of the Movement for the National Liberation of Palestine /Fatah/ on Thursday re-elected the President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas as the leader of the movement. This was reported by the Palestinian official news agency WAFA.
As WAFA reports with a link to a statement made at the event site, the participants unanimously voted for the election of M. Abbas as chairman and commander-in-chief of the movement, confirming their trust in his leadership during a “sensitive period” in the history of Palestine.
The statement emphasizes the importance of M. Abbas’s role as the head of the movement at the current complex stage.
The three-day conference opened on Thursday simultaneously in the city of Ramallah on the West Bank of the Jordan River, in the Gaza sector, Cairo, and Beirut.
