Saint Petersburg, May 14 /Xin Hua/ — The final of the Chinese song contest “Culture of China — Water Cube Cup” 2026 was held on Wednesday evening in Saint Petersburg at the “At Finland Station” concert hall, which featured young singers from Russia and China.
“Youth is the future of relations between our countries, and music is the bridge connecting the states,” said the Consul General of the PRC in Saint Petersburg, Luo Changxue, in his speech before the start of the contest. “Participants of the contest with their voices build not only a social, but also a living connection between the hearts of the peoples of China and Russia. The song contest is a visual check of success in learning the Chinese language and a vivid illustration of cultural exchange between countries.”We hope that platforms like the Water Cube Cup will help an increasing number of friends fall in love with the Chinese language and Chinese music, get to know China, and also allow a larger number of young Chinese people to come to Russia and feel a deep warmth here.
The Deputy Chairman of the Saint Petersburg Committee on Education, Evgeny Shkarupin, speaking, said that in the current year more than 5,000 students in Saint Petersburg schools are studying the Chinese language. Despite the fact that Chinese is very difficult, students in Saint Petersburg successfully participate annually in the All-Russian Schoolchildren’s Olympiad in the Chinese language, held by the Ministry of Education of Russia. “I am glad to welcome all participants of the international Chinese song contest in Saint Petersburg.”I’m sure that participating in the contest has become a new interesting experience for you and has allowed you to acquire new skills and abilities in a foreign language and in the song.
Participants of the competition, who passed the preliminary and semifinal qualifying rounds in St. Petersburg, competed for the gold, silver, and bronze medals in today’s final. Some of them also received special awards in the nominations — “Most Promising Participant,” “Most Popular,” “Best Performing Skills,” and others.
