Since 2015, 22 buildings with attics — residential additions built above roofs — have been renovated in the capital. The work was carried out within the framework of the regional housing capital repair program. The update returned the buildings’ front appearance and emphasized their unique character. This was reported incomplex of urban economy of Moscow.

House according to an individual project on Kuusinen Street

In 2021, specialists put the facade, roof, basement, and entrances of building 17 (block 2) on Kuusinena Street in order, and also replaced the engineering networks.

A residential building, having from 10 to 12 floors, was erected in 1955 according to an individual project in the style of Soviet neoclassicism by architects Zinovy Rozenfeld and Ashot Mndoyants. The house is part of an architectural ensemble of three buildings. It has a simple rectangular shape, with an additional floor and an attic. The facades with complex plastic decoration are adorned with decorative elements. Neighboring houses adjoin the ends of the building, identical in style and color scheme.

The main facade is highlighted by balconies and two driveway arches with semicircular portals. Its central part rises above the main volume of the building. The first-floor windows are decorated with semicircular casings. The concise courtyard facades are made of brick. On the facade facing the street, the five lower floors are separated from the upper part by a stretched profiled cornice with a bas-relief. Two courtyards are located in the yard and are distinguished by portals. The building is crowned with a crowning cornice.

Specialists cleaned and washed the open surfaces and treated the facade with anti-fungal compounds. The ceramic blocks with which it was faced were painted in the shade of “light ivory”, and the decorative elements, including sandriks and bas-reliefs, were painted creamy white. In addition, balconies and entrances were put in order, the drainpipes and roofing were replaced, and a temperature and humidity control system was installed in the attic using mineral wool heaters. Entrances and basement rooms were renovated, and new pipelines for cold and hot water supply, drainage, and central heating were laid.

House of a rare experimental series in 2nd Irininsky Lane

The attic floor exists in house 4 on the 2nd Irininsky Lane. In 2022, the facade, roof, entrance, and basement were repaired here, and a number of engineering systems were also replaced.

A five-story single-entrance residential building was constructed in 1957. The building belongs to the rare experimental series MG-2, which was erected only in Moscow and was intended for the resettlement of veterans’ housing. The new houses were easy to place on a small free plot of land among other buildings.

The building has a cubic shape with a fifth attic floor and a classic gable roof. All apartments in it are corner units. In the center of the main facade is a bay window decorated with a portal, and on the third and fourth floors, balconies are symmetrically located. The window spaces of the fourth floor are decorated with niches, and the central window of the fifth floor is highlighted by a portal and a pediment. The facades are vertically articulated by interfloor belts made of unpainted brick. The now dismantled brick chimney indicates that until the 1970s, individual gas boilers were used to heat houses of this series.

Specialists washed the facade, applied antifungal and anti-corrosion protection, and restored the damaged layers of the brickwork. Then they renovated the entrance doors and the windows of the common areas, plastered all surfaces of the building’s plinth part and applied a decorative coating, also constructed a new blind area, repaired the slopes, and replaced the gutter. On the roof, they renewed the wooden battens, the metal covering, and the rafter system. In addition, they installed new insulation for the attic floor, and treated all wooden elements with a fire and bio-protective compound.Brought the basement room and the entrance hall into order, replaced the power supply networks, as well as repaired the internal main lines of cold and hot water supply, drainage, and heat supply.

House in the style of Soviet neoclassicism on Novopeschanaya Street

In 2025, House 8 (Building 1) on Novopeschanaya Street was converted with an attic floor. The facades and a number of internal engineering systems were updated here.

A five-story residential building was constructed in 1950 according to an individual design in the style of Soviet neoclassicism. The windows of the lower floor are highlighted with arched casings. At the level of the fifth floor, decorative porticos are placed. The entrances are decorated with multipurpose portals, and the central entrances of the street facades are completed with balconies with balustrades. Around the perimeter of the building there is a crowning cornice.

Before the start of work, specialists from the Moscow Capital Renovation Fund created an individual project for performing the work, taking into account all the features of the historic building. First, the facade was washed, anti-corrosion protection was applied in areas of moisture exposure, the brickwork and architectural elements were restored. Then the walls made of unpainted brick were waterproofed, protecting them from the negative effects of any precipitation. All architectural elements, such as sandriks, balusters, bas-reliefs, and corner rustication, were painted in a historically classical white color. In addition, the entrances were renovated, drainage pipes, balconies, and sills were replaced, and the plinth of the building was also plastered. Inside the building, the electrical supply systems, cold water supply, central heating, and main sewer lines were replaced.
