Beijing, May 8 /Xinhua/ — The State Council of the PRC has established a special group to investigate the causes of the explosion at the pyrotechnics products manufacturing plant in Hunan Province /Central China/. Chinese authorities reported this on Friday.

An explosion occurred on May 4 at around 16:43 at an enterprise in the Luyan urban district of the Changsha city district, the administrative center of Hunan province. As of 12:00 on Friday, 37 people died as a result of the tragedy, one person is missing, and 51 others were injured and are undergoing treatment.

A special group, formed in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations, operates under the guidance of the Ministry of Emergency Management, with the participation of the Ministry of Public Security, the General Administration of Customs, the State Administration for Market Regulation, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, and the People’s Government of Hunan Province.

On Friday in the second half of the day, the group held its first meeting, at which investigative measures were determined and it was emphasized that all causes of the incident and those responsible for it must be established as a result of a thorough investigation.

Participants in the meeting called on the authorities at the local level to learn serious lessons from the tragedy, take decisive measures to strengthen control over safety when handling pyrotechnic products, as well as identify and eliminate hidden threats in key industries and sectors, in order to resolutely prevent the recurrence of similar major incidents. –0–
