Tehran, May 8 /Xinhua/ — The Armed Forces of Iran on Friday stated that its naval units seized the oil tanker Ocean Koi, which had “violated the law” and attempted to interfere with the export of Iranian oil, abusing the regional situation.
The statement of the Iranian army says that this tanker was carrying Iranian oil and tried to inflict damage on the national interests of Iran, having developed a “special operation” in the Gulf of Oman.
It is indicated that the naval forces of Iran sent a tanker to the southern coast of the country and handed it over to the jurisdiction of the country’s judicial authorities.
In a separate statement, the Iranian army reported that its naval forces have carried out strikes on US destroyers in recent hours using cruise missiles, rocket launchers, and combat drones in response to attacks on Iranian oil tankers near the Strait of Hormuz and in the territorial waters of Iran.
American destroyers changed course and left the area, the statement adds.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday firmly condemned the US night attacks, calling them a violation of the ceasefire concluded on April 8 between the opposing sides.
Moreover, on Friday, the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticized the US choice of a “reckless military adventure” at a time when “a diplomatic solution is once again on the table.”
As A. Aragchi wrote on the social network X, Iranians “never bow down to pressure,” and “diplomacy always ends up being a victim.”
He also stated that Iran’s missile arsenal and launch capabilities currently amount to 120 percent, which exceeds the estimates provided by the U.S. intelligence community.
