Los Angeles, May 7 /Xin Hua/ — American airlines spent 5.06 billion dollars on fuel in March against the backdrop of the unstable situation in the Middle East, which is 56.4 percent more than in February, and 30.4 percent more than a year ago. This was reported on Wednesday by the US Department of Transportation.

Carriers consumed 6.11 billion liters of fuel, which is 19.5 percent more than in February, and 0.4 percent more than in March 2025. The average price of aviation fuel in March was about 0.83 dollars per liter, which is 30.9 percent higher than in February, and 29.9 percent higher than the previous year.

A sharp rise in fuel prices, caused by conflicts in the Middle East, has significantly complicated the operations of airlines. The American low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines, headquartered in Florida, announced on Saturday that it is officially ceasing operations. –0–
