Almaty, May 6 /Xin Hua/ — In January-March 2026, electricity production from renewable energy sources /WIE/ in Kazakhstan amounted to 2.3 billion kWh, which is 15 percent higher than the figure for the same period last year. The press service of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan reported this on Wednesday.
As indicated by the agency, the forecasted VRE generation in 2026 is expected to be at the level of 8.8 billion kWh. This year, the commissioning of 10 new renewable energy facilities is also planned, including 4 wind power plants, 5 solar power plants, and 1 hydroelectric power plant, with a total installed capacity of 245 MW.
The share of renewable energy sources (RES) in the electricity generation structure in Kazakhstan reached 7% by the end of 2025. It is planned to increase this indicator to 15%.
