Moscow, May 6 /Tin Syuya/ — The Government of Russia has approved the Concept for the development of passenger transportation by general-purpose suburban railway transport until 2035. The corresponding order was signed by the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin. The Concept will allow the formation of a unified systematic approach to solving current tasks in the field of suburban railway communication. This was reported by the press service of the Russian government.
“The main goals of the new concept are to increase spatial connectivity and transport accessibility of territories, comfort, environmental friendliness, and safety of transportation, as well as the quality of services provided to passengers in suburban trains, and also the implementation of long-term tariff regulation and financing mechanisms for such transportation,” the statement on the Russian government website says.
It is planned, in particular, to update the rolling stock, digitize and implement new technologies, improve the regulatory and legal framework to enhance the infrastructure and conditions for passenger transportation in suburban traffic, create conditions to increase the efficiency of carriers’ and infrastructure owners’ activities and ensure the profitability of their operations, and create favorable conditions for attracting investment in the development of the industry.
M. Mishustin noted that millions of Russian citizens use electric trains for short trips every day. For many people, this is a fast and affordable way to get to places of work or study, medical institutions, recreational areas, as well as to neighboring cities.
