Tbilisi, May 6 /Sina/ — The construction of a historic infrastructure facility for Georgia — the deep-water port Anaklia — has already begun. This was announced on Wednesday by the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvitsishvili.
M. Kvrivishvili familiarized herself with the work on the territory of the port.
According to her, work at the site has moved into an active phase, and as a result of negotiations with the contractor company, the value of the initial contract was reduced by 52 million US dollars.
M. Kvrivishvili noted that the deep-water port Anaklia will become a complex infrastructure facility, including port capacities, a free industrial zone, and transport infrastructure.
“This is a project of strategic importance for the economy of our country. Anaklia will take a worthy place not only in the port infrastructure of Georgia but also of the entire region,” the minister stated.
She added that construction of an 18-kilometer railway line, which will connect the port with the main transport network and ensure its uninterrupted operation, will begin shortly. –0–
