Bogotá, May 5 /Xin Hua/ — Nine miners died, six others were injured and were rescued as a result of an explosion caused by a gas accumulation at a coal mine in the Cundinamarca department in central Colombia. This was reported on Monday by the National Mining Agency.

According to the report, the explosion occurred at the La-Siskuda shaft in the Cundinamarca department. All 15 shaft workers present at the time of the incident inside were injured. Six survivors were rescued and taken to the hospital.

The agency reported that during an inspection conducted on April 9 at the facility, security threats were identified, including gas accumulation and improper sealing of abandoned tunnels, and recommendations were made to improve ventilation and combat dust accumulation.

As reported by the governor of the Khorezm region, Ermilio Rey, on the social network X, on the scene of the incident, employees of the Colombian Red Cross are providing psychological support to the families of the deceased and the injured. The governor also expressed condolences and solidarity with those affected by this incident. –0–
