Tehran, May 3 /Xinhua/ — Representative of the Iranian army Mohammad Akraminia stated on Saturday that the country’s armed forces control the Strait of Hormuz and that not a single vessel — neither friendly nor hostile — can pass through this waterway without their permission.

Control over the Strait of Hormuz is an “inalienable right” of Iran, which the country has not exercised for many years, said M. Akraminia, as follows from the video recording of his speech published by Iranian media.

“Currently, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the west and the country’s army in the east securely control the strait, and no ship, friend or foe, will have the right to pass without permission from our forces,” he said.

Meanwhile, “various countries are alarmed and earnestly request Iran via telegrams and letters to allow their ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” quotes the semi-official news agency Fars the words of the Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran, Hamid Ganbari.

Iran has tightened control over the Strait of Hormuz since February 28, banning safe passage for ships belonging to Israel and the USA or associated with these countries, in response to joint strikes on Iranian territory. –0–
