Havana, May 2 /Xin Hua/ — Cuba on Saturday condemned the escalation of military threats against the country by US President Donald Trump.
“The President of the United States is pushing his threats of military aggression against Cuba to a dangerous and unprecedented level,” wrote Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on the social network X.
M. Dias-Canel called on the international community and the American people to decide whether they will allow them to “serve the interests of a small but wealthy and influential group committed to revenge and domination” in such a blatant criminal act.
He stated that no aggressor, “no matter how powerful he may be,” will find capitulation in Cuba, but rather “a people fully determined to defend sovereignty and independence.”
Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez stated on X the same day that the “clear and direct” threat by D. Trump of a military attack has escalated aggression against Cuba to a dangerous level.
B. Rodriguez added that the popular support for the Cuban revolution was “massively” demonstrated during the celebration of May 1st.
Speaking at an event in Palm Beach, Florida, D. Trump stated that the USA will take control of Cuba “almost immediately” after “finishing the job,” referring to the conflict with Iran in the Middle East.
The American president added that he “might” send the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln to the Caribbean Sea and stop it approximately 100 yards from the coast of Cuba “on its way back from Iran.” –0–
