Beijing, May 2 /Xinhua/ — On Saturday, the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC issued an order prohibiting the recognition, enforcement, and compliance with US sanctions imposed on five Chinese companies due to their alleged involvement in a deal with Iranian oil.

These five companies are Hengli Petrochemical /Dalian/ Refining Co., Ltd., Shandong Shouguang Luqing Petrochemical Co., Ltd., Shandong Jincheng Petrochemical Group Co., Ltd., Hebei Xinhai Chemical Group Co., Ltd., and Shandong Shengxing Chemical Co., Ltd.

According to the department, the restrictive measures of the USA include the inclusion of the above-listed enterprises in the List of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons, the freezing of their assets, and the prohibition on conducting any transactions with them.

As explained on Saturday by the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, commenting on the reciprocal ban by the UN, the sanctions imposed by the United States from 2025 under its own decrees, aimed against other countries, targeted these Chinese companies for their alleged participation in an oil deal with Iran.

According to him, the U.S. measures unlawfully prohibit or restrict normal economic and trade activities between Chinese companies and third countries, as well as with individuals, legal entities, and other organizations, which constitutes a violation of international law and the basic norms of international relations.

An official representative noted that in order to protect national sovereignty, security and development interests, and to ensure the lawful rights and interests of Chinese citizens, legal persons and other organizations, the Ministry of Commerce has introduced this prohibition on the basis of the Rules Against Unjustified Extraterritorial Application of Legislation and Measures of Foreign Countries.

He once again emphasized that the Chinese government consistently opposes unilateral sanctions adopted without the approval of the UN and lacking a basis in international law.

The trade department also noted that the introduction of a ban, which is practically a step towards the implementation of the aforementioned rules in accordance with the law, does not affect China’s fulfillment of its international obligations and does not affect the protection of the legal rights and interests of enterprises with foreign investments carried out by it in the manner established by law.

The ministry will continue to closely monitor the unlawful extraterritorial application of foreign laws and measures and, in case such situations arise, will take further actions in accordance with Chinese legislation, the official representative added. –0–
