New York, April 30 /Xin Hua/ — The U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs on Wednesday supported the candidacy of Kevin Warsh for the post of Chairman of the Federal Reserve System /FRS/ by voting along party lines.
13 legislators supported the candidacy of K. Worsh, 11 expressed opposition.
It is expected that in the near future the US Senate will hold a vote on the candidacy of K. Worsh for the position of member and chairman of the FRS Board of Governors.
In 2017, the Senate committee voted 22 to 1 against nominating Jerome Powell as Chairman of the Federal Reserve. His term expires on May 15.
“We should not vote today on the candidacy of Kevin Warsh for the position of Chairman of the Federal Reserve System… If the committee votes today for the nomination of Mr. Warsh, it will be one step closer to the president completing his illegal attempt to seize control over the Federal Reserve and artificially stimulate the economy,” Senator Democrat Elizabeth Warren said before the vote.
On January 30, U.S. President Donald Trump nominated K. Moore for the position of Chair of the Federal Reserve, and at the beginning of March the White House sent her nomination for consideration to the U.S. Senate.
