Astana, April 24 /Xinhua/ — The Regional Environmental Summit 2026 /RES-2026/ took place from April 22 to 24 in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana. The event was attended by leaders from five countries of Central Asia, Armenia, Georgia, and Mongolia.

According to the Kazinform agency, official delegations from 15 countries, representatives of the UN, the World Bank, and other international organizations also participated in the summit. The forum was organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan jointly with the UN and a number of international organizations.

The summit was held under the motto “A Shared Vision for a Sustainable Future” and was aimed at promoting a systemic mechanism for cooperation among Central Asian countries in the fields of ecosystem restoration, management of water and land resources, as well as biodiversity conservation.

The initiative to hold a regional environmental summit was proposed by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in 2023 at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. –0–
