Sofia, April 23 /Sina/ — The “Progressive Bulgaria” coalition, led by former Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, won 131 seats in the 240-seat parliament according to the results of the elections held on April 19. This is evidenced by the final results published on Thursday by the country’s Central Election Commission.

According to the Constitution of Bulgaria, the newly elected parliament convenes for its first session by the president of the country within a month after the elections. Then the head of state commissions the parliamentary faction that received the majority of seats to form a government, the composition of which must be approved in parliament by a simple majority of votes.

The recent parliamentary elections became the eighth in Bulgaria over the past five years. They took place after the resignation of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov’s government in December 2025, which occurred against the backdrop of mass protests against his economic policy and the subsequent inability of the parliament to form a new cabinet of ministers. –0–
