The success of the Chinese brand “Zhang Yue Moto” (ZXMoto) has sparked a broad discussion. Zhang Yue, a native of Hunan province, with the support of capital from Zhejiang province, arrived in Chongqing — a city with a highly concentrated motorcycle industry — to create high-performance motorcycles. His company won the World Superbike Championship (WSBK). Although the company was still unprofitable in 2025, its market capitalization has already risen sharply.
This example demonstrates the regularity of enterprise development: personal efforts, financial support, and a favorable location are all three indispensable factors. Zhang Xue’s dedication to his work and his dream became the foundation; investments from Chezian amounting to 90 million yuan at a critical moment became a turning point; and the established motorcycle industry production chain in Chongqing became a nurturing environment for growth.
However, the key reason for which the company stood out among many others lies in the use of a “regional approach” — that is, not limiting itself to local resources and markets, but fully utilizing the resources and markets of wider regions or even the entire world. Its suppliers and research institutes are located in the Yangtze River Delta, the Yellow River Delta, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and other places. They supply components for engines, electronic control systems, and high-precision parts, respectively, etc.High productivity, a high level of research and development, as well as high-class product positioning require enterprises to go beyond the local territory and focus on large regions.
This is a regional approach corresponding to the realities of local economic development: not a single territory has a complete production structure, they are interdependent and must be open. Acting alone only means strengthening one’s weaknesses. Only regional cooperation and coordinated development allow the creation of strong brands and the resistance to external competition.
ZXMoto is a typical example of cooperation between Eastern, Central, and Western China. This case shows that for high-quality enterprise development it is insufficient to rely only on internal management and government support. It is necessary to apply regional coordination, harmonize the interests of different territories, and ensure the free movement of production factors. This also meets the requirements for the creation of a unified national market. With the emergence of regional coordination, high-quality private innovative enterprises in China will inevitably accelerate their growth.
In fact, Zhang Yue is not the only one. Many other Chinese companies are also accelerating development in their own ways.
