Baku, April 20 /Xin Hua/ — On Monday, events dedicated to the UN Chinese Language Day were held at the Confucius Institute at the Azerbaijan University of Languages and Baku State University.
The PRC Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lu Mei, speaking at an event, drew attention to the fact that amidst the dynamic development of Chinese-Azerbaijani relations in Azerbaijan, there is a real boom in the study of the Chinese language, and local residents show great interest in Chinese culture. She noted that many young Azerbaijanis freely sing Chinese songs and master Chinese arts.
According to the rector of the Azerbaijan University of Languages Kamal Abdulla, Chinese hieroglyphs, which appeared five thousand years ago, played a very important role in the development of world culture.
Rector of Baku State University Elchin Babaev emphasized that events dedicated to the UN Chinese Language Day play an important role in promoting intercultural dialogue and strengthening mutual understanding between the residents of Azerbaijan and China.
At the event, teachers and students of the Confucius Institutes performed Peking opera and Chinese dances, recited Chinese poetry, and sang Chinese songs.
Guests of the event were able to try Chinese cuisine and Chinese tea, got acquainted with Chinese calligraphy, the art of paper cutting, and Chinese national costumes. Teachers from the Confucius Institutes wrote Azerbaijani names in Chinese using a calligraphy brush at the request of the guests. –0–
