Beijing, April 20 /Xinhua/ — Preventing the resurgence of militarism is an unshakable duty of Japan and the firm will of the international community, including China. This was stated on Monday by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, Geng Shuang.
Go Uzyakun called on the Japanese side to learn lessons from history, to strictly observe its international obligations, and to remain committed to the path of peaceful development.
A Chinese diplomat made appropriate statements in response to the question about the recent protests of tens of thousands of Japanese against the Japanese government’s attempts to revise the country’s pacifist constitution.
“We have also noted that the initiative to revise the Japanese constitution is causing increasing doubts and resistance both within Japan itself and from its Asian neighbors and the international community as a whole,” Go Tszyakun noted.
He reminds that Japanese militarism committed brutal crimes against the peoples of China and other Asian countries, and also caused deep suffering to the Japanese people themselves.
As Go Tszakun indicated, the issue of revising Japan’s constitution concerns the post-war international order and the direction of Japan’s development, always focusing on the international community and the Asian neighbors of this country.
According to the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, the Japanese side still has not been able to deeply and comprehensively rethink the history of its aggression, while some forces in Japan are vainly trying to smooth over and whitewash the crimes of the invaders, pushing the country towards accelerated remilitarization. This leads to the fact that “neo-militarism” is gaining strength and turning into a real threat to peace and stability in the region. The international community should approach this with increased vigilance, Go Tsekyun warned. –0–
