Within the framework of the International Transport and Logistics Forum in Saint Petersburg, a plenary session “Transport Connectivity as the Basis of the New World Order: From Global Competition to Common Security” took place. In the discussion dedicated to international cooperation in the transport sector, Vice Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev and the head of the Ministry of Transport Andrey Nikitin participated.

The development of transboundary international transport corridors through the territory of Russia is one of the priority tasks. Special attention is given to routes that open access to the markets of South Asia, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region. Over five years, shipments along the “North – South” international transport corridor have increased by one third, and along the IRU “Eastern direction” by more than a quarter.

“In conditions of new conflicts in the world, one of the safest and most effective corridors becomes the Northern Sea Route. In 2024, a record volume of cargo will be transported through it – about 38 million tons. This indicator exceeds the Soviet period record by more than 5.5 times,” emphasized Vitaly Savelyev.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Russian decisions in the field of transport services can become the basis for cooperation throughout the entire transport space of the EAEU, SCO, and BRICS.

Russia is among the leading countries developing high-speed transportation. A key infrastructure project for the coming years is the construction of the new high-speed Moscow – Saint Petersburg highway.

Unmanned transport is being developed. In July 2025, an airspace class N will be introduced in Russia, which will open possibilities for flights of civilian UAVs at an altitude of up to 3050 meters. The fleet of unmanned trucks on public roads is growing. It is expected that by 2030 their number will exceed 4 thousand.

“An important component is a strong transport education. Russia is preparing not only system users, but also engineer-developers capable of designing modern solutions and logistical platforms,” summarized Andrey Nikitin.
