Helsinki, July 5 /Xinhua/ — China is ready to work with Finland in a spirit of openness and mutual benefit on implementing a joint action plan to promote a new type of forward-looking China-Finland relationship of cooperation and partnership, expanding trade and investment, and deepening cooperation in areas such as green transformation, scientific and technological innovation, and artificial intelligence (AI). This was stated on Sunday by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
According to him, promoting green and low-carbon development is an approved course of the Chinese government, while Finland has unique advantages in sustainable development and innovation.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the corresponding statements during talks in Helsinki with Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen.
The Chinese diplomat noted that Finland was one of the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with the New China, as well as the first Western country to sign an intergovernmental trade agreement with the PRC.
As Wang Yi pointed out, over the 76 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China-Finland ties have consistently been at the forefront of China’s relations with the Nordic countries and serve as a model of equal cooperation between states with different social systems and cultural traditions.
According to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, the establishment in 2017 of a new type of China-Finland cooperative and partnership relations oriented toward the future has fully demonstrated the promising and innovative nature of bilateral ties. He emphasized that regardless of changes in the international situation, China is ready to uphold mutual respect with Finland, treat each other as equals, and continue to be partners who trust one another.
Wan Yi stated that the PRC highly values Finland’s commitment to the One China principle and hopes for closer contacts with the Finnish side at all levels in order to strengthen mutual trust and maintain the political foundation of bilateral relations.
As the head of China’s foreign affairs agency noted, China is ready to engage in dialogue with the European side on the basis of mutual respect. At the same time, he emphasized that the trade and investment consultation mechanism should not become a tool for unilateral pressure.
Van I expressed hope that Finland will play an active role in promoting the healthy and sustainable development of China-Europe relations.
E. Waltonen, for her part, stated that friendly exchanges between Finland and China have a long history.
She noted that Finland was one of the first Western countries to recognize the New China and consistently adheres to the one-China policy. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have always maintained mutual respect and trust, E. Valtonen pointed out.
The Finnish Foreign Minister stated that her country highly values the concept of “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping and is ready, in accordance with the demands of the times and in the spirit of mutual benefit, to further unlock the potential for cooperation with China in such areas as green and low-carbon development, trade and investment, healthcare, digital economy, and climate change mitigation.
She noted that China is an important partner in overcoming key global challenges. Finland wishes to strengthen communication and coordination with the PRC in multilateral forums, including the UN, and expects a constructive dialogue between Europe and China that will yield tangible results, said E.
