New York, July 5 /Xinhua/ — Eight people, including four children, were shot on Saturday evening in the Coney Island area of New York City. This was reported by the local police.

According to New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, an unknown man dressed in black and wearing a black ski mask approached the location of a family barbecue in the courtyard of an apartment building and fired several shots. Coney Island is located in the Brooklyn borough/administrative district of New York.

As reported by J. Tish on Sunday morning at a briefing, the 21-year-old woman who was wounded in the chest is in critical condition. The condition of the other victims is assessed as stable. The ages of the four injured children range from 6 to 14 years old.

At the scene of the incident, the police found a firearm. No arrests have been made so far, the investigation is ongoing.

Additionally, on Sunday morning in the Brooklyn district of Crown Heights, a police officer sustained minor injuries due to bullets hitting his bulletproof vest during an unprovoked shooting.
