Stockholm, July 5 /Xinhua/ — The Wallenberg family and the Swedish business community should continue to play an active role in urging the Swedish government to pursue a rational and pragmatic policy toward China, in shaping an objective perception of the People’s Republic of China among the Swedish public, and in strengthening public support for the development of bilateral relations. This was stated by Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, on Saturday during a meeting with Jacob Wallenberg, Chairman of the Swedish company Investor AB.
The Wallenberg family has close ties with China and has played an innovative and exemplary role, making a unique contribution to the development of Sino-Swedish relations, being one of the first European consortiums to enter the Chinese market after the implementation of reform and opening-up policies in China, Wang Yi noted.
According to him, under the leadership of Chairman Xi Jinping and the CPC, the country is following a path of development that corresponds to its national conditions and enjoys the support of the people, while also promoting modernization in the Chinese style in all directions.
“China’s development has powerful internal momentum and a clear historical logic,” said Wang Yi, adding that China will continue to follow a new development philosophy to guide high-quality development, continuously stimulate domestic demand, expand high-level openness, uphold the principles of free trade and market economy, share development opportunities with the world, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Cooperation with China offers great opportunities, and investment in China is an investment in the future, stated the minister, urging representatives of the Swedish and European business community, including the Wallenberg family, to further strengthen cooperation with China in the interests of mutual benefit and mutually advantageous results.
Wan Yi said that China and Sweden are currently working on improving mutual trust, focusing on cooperation, and returning bilateral relations to a path of sustainable development, which requires joint efforts from all sectors of both countries.
For his part, J. Wallenberg noted that his family entered the Chinese market in the 1970s and 1980s, became a direct witness of China’s reform and opening-up process, actively participated in exchanges and cooperation between Sweden and China in various fields, and benefited greatly from it.
