Stockholm, July 4 /Xinhua/ — China is ready to work with Sweden to intensify exchanges at all levels, leverage complementary advantages, promote mutually beneficial cooperation, and steer bilateral relations onto a healthy, stable, and sustainable development trajectory. This was stated on Saturday by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Wan Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made a corresponding statement during a meeting with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Stockholm.

During the meeting, U. Kristersson asked Wang Yi to convey his best wishes to the Chinese leaders. He noted that Sweden and China, as well as their peoples, are connected by many years of traditions of friendly exchanges, adding that Sweden highly values Chinese culture and spirit of innovation, as well as China’s remarkable achievements in development.

According to U. Kristersson, the Swedish government firmly adheres to the one-China principle and intends to strengthen dialogue, expand consensus, and promote mutually beneficial and forward-looking cooperation with China in various fields.

Sweden also supports Europe and China in strengthening dialogue and properly resolving disagreements, he added.

Wan Yi, in turn, conveyed greetings to U. Kristersson from Chinese leaders and reminded that exchanges between China and Sweden trace their roots back to the ancient Silk Road. He noted that Sweden was the first Western country to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China, which demonstrates its independence and strategic vision, as well as serves as an example for the international community.

Since Sino-Swedish relations have faced some difficulties in recent years, continued the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, it is especially necessary for the parties to strengthen dialogue, deepen mutual understanding and restore mutual trust, and, even more importantly, maintain a correct perception of each other.

As noted by the head of China’s foreign affairs department, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, over 1.4 billion Chinese people have been lifted out of absolute poverty. The CPC has maintained continuity and stability in domestic and foreign policy, providing the world with much-needed confidence, he emphasized.

A more prosperous China will benefit the entire world and create new opportunities for all countries, including Sweden, Wang Yi pointed out, expressing hope that Sweden will play a constructive role in promoting China-European relations.

During his visit, Wang Yi also held talks with the Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard and met with the Chairman of the Board of the Swedish company Investor AB, Jacob Wallenberg. –0–
