More than 1,500 confirmed cases of Ebola registered in the DRC

Kinshasa, July 4 /Xinhua/ — In the Democratic Republic of Congo /DRC/, 1,502 confirmed cases of Ebola fever have been registered, including 473 fatalities, while the World Health Organization /WHO/ stated that the outbreak remains serious.

According to the latest situation report published on Friday by the public health authorities of the DRC, 628 patients are currently in isolation or hospitalized, 229 have recovered. Additionally, there are 213 suspected cases of illness, including 63 deaths.

Speaking at an online briefing for the media, WHO Regional Director for Africa Mohamed Yakoub Djannabi stated that the situation remains serious. The virus continues to spread in the eastern provinces of Ituri and North Kivu.

According to him, the current outbreak is the largest among the registered outbreaks of the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola fever. –0–
