Haikou, July 4 /Xinhua/ — Flights resumed at Fenghuang /Phoenix/ International Airport in Sanya city, Hainan province /South China/ on Saturday at 6:00 a.m., as Typhoon Maesak, the 10th typhoon this year, weakened.
According to data from the Meteorological Administration of Hainan Province, a tropical storm made landfall around 18:20 on Friday in the town of Yelin in Lingshui Li Autonomous County. On Friday evening, it swept across Hainan Island and moved into the northern part of Beibu Bay.
The first flight CZ6731 took off on Saturday at 7:18 a.m.
On Saturday at 9:20 a.m., the above-mentioned authority maintained the level III typhoon warning, as at 8:00 a.m. Typhoon “Maesak” was located approximately 155 km southeast of Dunsin city in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (GZAR), South China, with maximum wind speeds near its epicenter reaching 23 meters per second.
The typhoon is expected to continue moving northwest at a speed of 10-15 km/h, maintaining its current intensity. According to forecasts, on Saturday evening it will make landfall again along the coast near the border between the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and northern Vietnam, after which it will change direction northward and gradually weaken. -0-
