Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova visited the Kaliningrad region on a working trip – the region is celebrating its 80th anniversary. The Vice Premier congratulated the residents on the holiday and also visited branches of the “Defenders of the Fatherland” fund, the Moscow State Academy of Choreography, and the Central Music School – the Baltic Academy of Performing Arts, as well as the new “Planet Ocean” building of the Museum of the World Ocean.
The trip began with a visit to the most iconic site in the region – the memorial to the 1200 Guardsmen. The memorial honoring the soldiers and officers who died in the battles for Königsberg was opened shortly after the war ended, on September 30, 1945. It became the first memorial in the USSR commemorating the heroism of Soviet soldiers who fell in the Great Patriotic War.
The memory of the heroes was honored by Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of Russia in the Northwestern Federal District Igor Rudenya, and Governor of the Kaliningrad Region Alexey Besprozvannykh. They also congratulated the residents of the region on the holiday.
“I want to address the people of Kaliningrad and wholeheartedly congratulate them on the 80th anniversary of the formation of the Kaliningrad region, because this is truly a historic event. An event connected with the outcomes of the Second World War. And today we are here, at the monument, bowing our heads before the Soviet soldiers who gave their lives so that there would be peace – peace on earth, peace in the country, and we pay tribute to the residents of the Kaliningrad region who, after the Great Patriotic War, came to this region to open a new chapter in its life,” said Tatyana Golikova.
She emphasized that the Kaliningrad region is a special area for the country: “The Kaliningrad region is our geostrategic territory. It is the outpost of the Russian Federation on the western borders. Our Baltic Fleet is stationed here, industry, science, and culture are developing here. But the greatest wealth of the Kaliningrad region is, of course, its residents. I want to congratulate the residents once again and thank them for their contribution to the development of the region.”
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that over the past five years, the population of the Kaliningrad region has grown by 1.4%, which indicates that the standard of living is increasing, and people feel comfortable living and starting families here.
Tatyana Golikova also reminded of the recent decision by the head of state Vladimir Putin to extend the social and economic development program of the Kaliningrad region until 2036. And in the upcoming five years, under the governor’s program, 30 billion rubles will be invested annually in infrastructure development.
“This is significant not only for the residents but also for the entire country. We are pleased to cooperate with the Kaliningrad region and are doing everything possible to ensure the region develops,” emphasized the Deputy Prime Minister.
Tatiana Golikova and Igor Rudenya also held a meeting where they discussed issues related to the development of the consumer market, the agro-industrial complex, and fuel supply for the Kaliningrad region.
In addition, Tatyana Golikova, Igor Rudenya, and Alexey Besprozvannykh visited a branch of the “Defenders of the Fatherland” fund, where they met with its staff and visitors. The specialists at the branch focus on creating comfortable conditions for veterans, providing individualized rehabilitation and social adaptation plans. Special attention is given to close cooperation with other agencies and organizations to promptly address arising issues.
During her visit to the region, Tatyana Golikova acquainted herself with the facilities of the cultural and educational cluster on Oktyabrsky Island, which were built following the instructions of President Vladimir Putin. Among them are the educational spaces of the branches of the Moscow State Academy of Choreography and the Central Music School – Academy of Performing Arts “Baltic”. Both educational institutions began their operations in 2019 and currently implement programs of secondary vocational and additional education in the field of performing arts and choreography, and since 2023 the CMS – API has been implementing a higher education program.
Currently, both branches have 255 students studying in various fields from Kaliningrad and another 35 cities in Russia and Kazakhstan. Every year, students and graduates participate in various festive events and concerts, and become winners of prestigious competitions. The Deputy Chairman of the Government informally communicated with the students and prospective students of the CMS, congratulated them on the region’s anniversary, and wished them further success in their professional careers. “Wonderful conditions have been created for your development and professional growth. The region is actively developing, new cultural attraction points are being established, and I am absolutely sure that many of you will stay in this wonderful region and link your lives with the Kaliningrad region,” Tatiana Golikova noted.
She also visited the exhibition of the new building of the Museum of the World Ocean “Planet Ocean,” which opened this year, and discussed with the institution’s management the possibilities for its further development. The museum is visited by over 2 million people annually, with 18,000 tours, 50 exhibitions, and 240 events held there.
