Beijing, July 3 /Xinhua/ — The Global Digital Economy Conference 2026 kicked off in Beijing on Thursday. The event is attended by leaders of Chinese and foreign corporations, business council representatives, experts and scholars, as well as minister-level officials from Kazakhstan, Colombia, and Chad.

At the opening ceremony, the Global Digital Economy City Alliance released the report “Global Digital Economy Cities-2026,” dedicated to analyzing the pathways, models, and types of digital transformation in cities. The report emphasizes that digital technologies should not only contribute to the modernization of industry and improvement of urban governance, but also be tangible for residents, applicable for businesses, and accessible to society.

Another important outcome of this conference was the joint publication of the collection “Global Digital Economy Lighthouse Casebook 2026” by the International Telecommunication Union, the International Trade Centre, and the Global Smart Cities Alliance.

It presents 13 top examples, known as “beacon cases,” covering six main areas: coordinated digital urban management, inclusive digital public services, climate-resilient urban infrastructure, enhancing public well-being through digital technologies, low-carbon intelligent transport systems, as well as services ensuring digital inclusion for vulnerable groups. These smart governance cases were drawn from examples of cities such as Beijing, Jakarta, Madrid, Istanbul, and others.

As part of the conference, which will continue until Sunday, a series of specialized sessions dedicated to topics such as artificial intelligence, workforce training, and industrial digitalization are also planned.

According to the organizing committee, since its establishment in 2021, this conference has attracted more than 10,000 companies and 150,000 representatives from over 200 countries and international organizations, and to date, 500 achievements have been published.
